Cultivating a Neurodiversity-Affirming Approach to Yoga

New Workshop! Cultivating a Neurodiversity-Affirming Approach to Yoga

Neurodiversity includes all of us– all ways of thinking, feeling, moving, and being– and yet, problems with accessibility and the way yoga is presented can send the message that yoga is only for a privileged few. Mainstream modern yoga spaces often exclude folks who don’t conform to dominant social expectations in the ways we think, feel, express, and interact with the world around us. How do we change this so that everyone feels welcomed and can access the teachings?

Neurodiversity-affirming yoga is just yoga. Yoga doesn't need to be reinvented for neurodivergent folks. We just need spaces where our differences are welcomed, supported, and embraced. When we can safely unmask, we can experience the joy of knowing our true Self.

In this 90-minute online workshop we’ll explore language and frameworks for rethinking differences, and apply a neurodiversity lens to approaching the practice of yoga through a combination of lecture, accessible guided practices, reflection, and discussion.

Some questions we’ll explore:

  • What does “neurodiversity-affirming” mean in the context of yoga?

  • How might neurodivergent people experience yoga differently?

  • What would it look like to embrace difference over conformity in practice and/or teaching?
